NewWebDir's mission is to be your internet home for a New Web Directory.  It serves you in a sense that you can search for websites using * as wildcard character.  For example, keying in *jer*get* for searching would bring you www.newjerseyromanticgetaways.com, wash*post will bring you www.washingtonpost.com, mil*page will bring you www.milliondollarhomepage.com.  Imagine opening a browser and then having to key in all the characters of a website name.  This would be tiresome.  Sometimes there would be accidental typo errors in typing and then you would have to retype.  At NewWebDir, keying in a few characters having * as wildcard would display matching name of your destined websites and enable you to go there faster by clicks of the mouse.

NewWebDir is a web directory, NOT a search engine.  Search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, Baidu, Live etc... are super great and are extremely useful.  We all use them extensively.  Anyhow, there would be time that we only want to look up website names rather than doing a "subject/topic" search.  One scenario would be:  yesterday, a friend told us about a website called www.newjerseyromanticgetaways.com, and then today we forget the spelling of it, or just remember roughly something like "jersey or romantic or getaway".  By keying in *jer*get*, NewWebDir will list the name of that website for us.  Talk about the Wild Card Internet Yellow Pages at your fingertips on NewWebDir.

The directory currently has 4 millions websites.  Our goal is for NewWebDir have most of the global websites which are 50 million plus.  This would be a challenge for us.  As you noticed, when you entered Domain Name having both first character and last character as *, it would take few seconds longer to search.  The reason is that even though we optimized NewWebDir application as best as we can, we are limited to the hardware & software resources that we currently have.  If we have more advanced hardware & software resources, it would improve the searching time to be within one second.  Then we would be able to let NewWebDir contain 50 millions websites without sacrificing any performance in speed.  Nevertheless, if you would like to add websites to the directory, please let us know.  We greatly welcome, value and appreciate any constructive questions, comments, suggestions and partnerships as part of improving NewWebDir to better serve the internet community.
